UPDATE:

Anton has submitted a video as a response. Honestly, I think it’s very clever on his part, and also clarifying that he was trying to make a joke out of everything. I still stand by what I’ve said here, but his words in the video has some merit; perhaps it was too far, but I’m glad he responded.

Here’s what bugs me about this article…
Controvesy is only validated out of an educated, objective point of view.
Given, I really don’t know this guy Anton, but in all jest lies truth. Which means that deep down, he probably does feel this way about Stellies.

I’m a born and raised Southern Suburbs boy, lived the surfer life, Caprice, Le Med, Baraza Life. Attended Rondebosch, Wynberg Boys and Sax clashes, all to entertain rivalry of sport between schools. And it’s all in good fun. Here at Stellies, we call that GEES!!!

The seriousnous of the article comes in the blurring between sport rivalry and rasicism. As young South Africans, is it really necessary to judge a majority on the experience of a minority. Yes, there are houses that fly the old SA flag, and pubs that burst into song with “Die Stem”. But media like this is no better because majority of white, afrikaans people that I know, are nothing like the article suggests. Also, it’s easy to say, well if you knew anton, you would not take the article seriously. But lets be honest, if you knew Julius Malema or Robert Mugabe personally, maybe your opinion of there idiocracy would also change.
Why should we use media in the way that he has? IGNORANCE!!!! Think about the impact of opinion vs fact.

P.S. I’m a 27yr old coloured male, been lecturing a B.Sc. Degree at Stellies since the age of 25(Beat That!!) My flatmate is a white afrikaans guy and so are some of my best friends (Beat That!!) And lastly…Dont DIS what you do not understand…it only exposes how stupid you truely are.

All a little storm in potjie if you ask me. It is a rugby game nothing more nothing less. Looking back at my UCT years, my majors in Canteen Studies and Advanced Raconteuring don’t seem to feature in any world rankings. For all the posturing ( on both sides, you forgot to mention a certain Mr Verwoerd from your list of notable Matties), I think we should all take a step back and focus on the real enemy – Tukkies ! Now BA in finger painting, mmmmm maybe I should think about furthering my skills base!
